James Kuemmerle

James Kuemmerle, MBA, MSW, LCSW, BCD, is an experienced clinical social worker, educator, and behavioral health leader with a career rooted in service, resilience, and community impact. His professional path includes serving twice in the United States Army and working as a first responder (retired), experiences that shaped his commitment to mental health, public health, crisis response, and strengthening systems of care for vulnerable populations. Over the last three decades, he has held diverse leadership and clinical roles across healthcare, behavioral health, and community-based organizations, with a significant focus on supporting individuals and families experiencing adversity, trauma, or limited access to care.
His educational background includes an MBA, an MS in Emergency Management, advanced clinical licensure, complemented by extensive training in trauma-informed care, integrated behavioral health, and rural mental health systems. Throughout his career, he has served rural and frontier communities across Northeast Colorado and other underserved regions, building partnerships, advancing workforce development, expanding behavioral health access, and supporting community-driven solutions. His work continues to center on strengthening rural health systems, empowering communities, and expanding equitable behavioral health services statewide.
Currently, Jim is employed by Colorado State University, Office of Engagement and Extension, Colorado Agrability Project as a regional behavioral health specialist. He is based out of Sterling and covers the Eastern Plains.
Recently, he has been named to the executive council for AARP Colorado and selected as a fellow for the 2026 Colorado Governors Fellowship Program. Jim lives in the town of Akron on the Eastern Plains with his family and dog, Max.
