Initiative 25: Help to Fund Education
One of CPHA's priorities is to assure that we are addressing the social determinants of health which we know has a significant impact on overall public health. Poverty and education are two social determinants that influence quality of life and health status.
Colorado is in a serious fiscal crisis and as a CPHA member we want you to be informed about this crisis and have the information you need in order to make informed decisions when you see Initiative 25 on the ballot this year. We know it will impact public health.
Initiative 25 is a tax measure that directly supports education and thus it will have an effect on public health. If we can help to assure a better funded education system, we will see improved health outcomes. In addition this initiative will provide more funding for education which produces less overall stress on an already severely hampered Colorado state general fund.
The following three sources of information are available for CPHA members so you may make informed decisions relative to initiative 25 that will affect public health.
- A link to the Fiscal Policy Institute which provides more detailed information on Initiative 25 and its purpose.
- A link to the Bell Policy Center which provides a great summary video related to Colorado’s fiscal problems: Colorado's Budget: In Plain Talk
- A link to the National County Health rankings which has a good description of education and health and how they relate.
